On July 28th, the FCC banned new Chinese-made humanoids, quadrupeds, and connected power inverters by adding “advanced robotic devices” to its Covered List.

The move followed a vulnerability discovered earlier this year in which a line of foreign home robots exposed live camera feeds, microphone audio, and floor plans from thousands of devices. China holds roughly 85% of the humanoid market. The rule is also written broadly enough that future Roombas, lawn mowers, and delivery bots get swept in.
